cover-illustration-Syed-Ali-Geelani-Property-RowHurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Monday said that Hurriyat Conference and freedom loving people of Jammu and Kashmir have nothing to do unionist politics and government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We are against the occupation. Whoever comes to power and forms government in J&K, we have nothing to do with that,” octogenarian Hurriyat Patriarch said while delivering presidential address at a seminar titled “UN Resolutions – Basis for Kashmir Resolution’, organized by his faction at his office-cum-residence at Hyderpora.

Geelani, who is undergoing house detention, said that Hurriyat Conference is fighting for complete withdrawal of Indian troops based in Kashmir and freedom from Indian Union.

“Is this a new thing that BJP is coming to Kashmir? Isn’t 7.5 lakh Indian army BJP’s face in Kashmir?” he asked.

Without naming anyone, Geelani said, with reference to government formation in J&K, “People are asking Indian PM Modi to take Vajpayee route in solving Kashmir Issue. But I ask you what did former Indian PM Vajpayee did?” “He talked about humanity but did he do that,” he continued. “We respect humanity in most valuable terms.”

Geelani further asked, “did Vajpayee call back his army or ensure justice to victims or did he give basic rights to Kashmiris?”

The Hurriyat chairman further said that there is no relevance of Article 370 or laws like such. “People say that Article 370 shall be removed and then non residents shall come to settle down in Kashmir. What is the relevance of such laws; we are fighting against occupation,” Geelani said.

He further said that the development plank being used by BJP is nothing but ‘farce’.

“Modi is PM because of 2002 Gujarat riots; even if gold is spread over roads of Kashmir since then we won’t stop fighting occupation,” he said.

Geelani asked people to introspect and see weaknesses that are within them. “People take part in rallies of pro-Indian politicians which is very bad and detrimental for our struggle; we should know that same people are hurdles in our path to freedom,” he said.

While paying tributes to victims of Peshawar attack, Geelani appealed Pakistani establishment that violence is no answer to violence. “Take the route of law and justice; violence can’t be answer to violence,” he said.

Earlier, Geelani’s close aide and General Secretary of Tehreek-i-Hurriyat, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in his address to seminar lashed out on those who participated in recently concluded elections.

Explaining relevance of Security Council Resolutions, expert on International Relations and Laws, academician Dr Sheikh Showkat Hussain while detailing about the UN Resolutions viz-a-viz Kashmir said, “UN Resolution about Kashmir are like Patwari documents which prove decisive whenever a dispute arises.”

“Deployment of UN Observers Group in any disputed region means that UN Security Council has passed resolutions about Kashmir through Chapter 7 of United Nations Constitution,” he said answering that Chapter 6 of UN Constitution doesn’t call for deployment of such observers.

He said that the UN Resolutions don’t fade with the passage of time giving example of Hong Kong’s occupation under Britain.

Earlier, Hurriyat Conference (JK) chief Shabir Shah also addressed the seminar and called for unity among the separatists.
