A private engineering college in Rohtak, Haryana disallowed 13 students from Kashmir Valley from taking examination over non-receipt of fees. The students are studying in the college through government of India announced Prime Ministers Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS). The scheme was announced post 2010 Kashmir uprising.
“The college authorities told us that they have not received our fees yet, so we were not allowed to sit in the examination,” one of the students said.
Pertinently, under the scheme, the fees and other dues are to be paid by Ministry of Human Resource Development, government of India.
“We are being asked not to sit in the exams after we have already spent two years in the college. The authorities are saying that they have not received any money yet and they can’t allow the Kashmiri students to further stay in the college,” the student.
“We have been asked to vacate the hostel if our fee is not paid,” he added.
