A high level delegation from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), a Maharatna public enterprise Wednesday visited University of Kashmir to offer training and employment opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.uni

The company intends to train Graduate/ Post Graduate Mechanical and Electrical engineers for a period of ninety days and based on their performance trained engineers would be considered for placements.

While speaking on the occasion Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir,said that with rapid developments in the global business environment, there is a need for highly productive workforce. So graduates entering job market must possess the required skill sets to be productively employed. He further stressed that efforts aimed at bringing a greater understanding of how education systems must adapt, to meet the needs of industry by producing better-prepared graduates must be initiated.  Prof. Talat Ahmad informed that University of Kashmir has initiated several measures to develop a strong interface with the industry for addressing the issue of unemployment among the youth of Jammu & Kashmir.He advised the youth of Jammu & Kashmir to take full advantage of their competencies and capabilities to explore avenues across the globeand  assured the students of all possible help.

Prof.Zaffar Ahmad, Registrar University of Kashmir said on this occasion that enhancing employability and creating employment opportunities is our top priority. He added that we are willing to engage with top most companies of the country for creating industry academia interface for better opportunities for our youth.

Prof. Shabir A Bhat, Director Career Planning and Counseling University of Kashmir said that employability of graduates has emerged as a serious issue. He said that according some surveys conducted at national level indicated dissatisfaction and raised serious questions about the quality of education offered by the educational institutions across India and its relevance for the industry. He added that there is a need to revamp the educational system to prepare the youth for the challenges of tomorrow. Prof. Shabir  highlighted the role of Career Planning and Counseling, University of Kashmir in providing training and employment opportunities for the youth of Jammu & Kashmir. He informed the audience about the series of initiatives being taken up by CCP&C  with various top level companies such as Tata Consultancy Servicers, Wipro, HCL Info systems, ONGC  etc. for training and recruitment of youth.It is our collective responsibility to create better opportunities for our young generation both within and outside the state. He added.

Om Suyun, General Manager, Human Resource, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), stressed the fact that Kashmiri youth are second to none in terms of their competence and capabilities, but they need to be trained to make them industry ready. The General Manager, Human Resource, informed that Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) had initiated this programme to enhance employability and job opportunities to Kashmiri youth. Preet Pankaj Singh Head admission was present on the occasion.
