As Er Rashid was thrashed in lower house, opposition led by NC working president and former CM, Omar Abdullah sought explanation from CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

While condemning the act, CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said that such acts are uncalled for. “This is a peoples’ house and everyone should be listened,” he said, adding, “but the incident is condemnable.”

Further CM Mufti, asked deputy CM and BJP leader Nirmal Singh to tender an apology to the house.

As Nirmal Singh stood, Er Rashid asked Speaker, Kavinder Gupta, to give him time to explain what had happened before resumption of the business today but BJP legislators raised hue and cry and Nirmal Singh said, “we don’t approve of it.”

“Everyone body has a right to put forth his view point,” Nirmal Singh said, however, he added, “whatever happened Wednesday evening in MLA hostel is condemnable.”

Er Rashid had organized a beef party in the MLA hostel.

As Nirmal Singh sat down in his seat, opposition led by Omar Abdullah was not moved forcing CM Mufti to ask Nirmal Singh to again give the explanation.

“We condemn thrashing of Er Rashid. It is unfortunate,” Nirmal said. As he was speaking, opposition was raising slogans against the government and to this Nirmal yelled, “Are there only your sentiments? Don’t we have the sentiments?”

Not satisfied, the opposition walked out of the assembly.

Earlier, Omar Abdullah demanded stern action against the accused BJP men in house. “We are suspended and what you do now (against BJP legislators), will be seen,” Omar addressed Speaker, Kavinder Gupta.
