A militant was killed in an encounter with government forces at Babagund village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

An official said that a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF had laid an ambush following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.

The slain militant was identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar a resident of Samboora.

Sources said that the two other militants managed to escape from the spot.

SSP Pulwama Chandan Kholi also confirmed that one militant has been killed in an overnight encounter at Babagund area.

“The army’s 55 RR party was going through the area in a Casper vehicle when it was fired upon by the militants,” SSP said.

He said that soon after the attack the whole area was cordoned off along with the additional reinforcements of security forces.

In the meantime, the contact was established with the hiding militants resulting in the killing of one militant, he said.

Meanwhile, the authorities have snapped the internet services in the Pulwama district.
