On the eve of III phase of municipal elections in Kashmir, a policeman was killed on Friday late night after fired upon by unknown gunmen in Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Official sources said that the gunmen barged inside the house of SPO turned follower Javid Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Kareem Lone at around 10:45 pm and fired upon him at Warpora area in Sopore.
In the incident, Lone suffered serious bullet wounds in his head and was shifted to SDH Sopore where he succumbed to injuries, they said.
Sources said that Lone was posted at District Police Lines (DPL) Sopore.
Meanwhile, Army, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the assailants.
