Expressing anguish and concern at the fast deteriorating security situation in Kashmir, principal opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)  In a statement here a spokesman of the party said the state government has miserably failed in securing lives of the people who are getting killed every day at the hands of one or the other gunman.

While condemning the attack on a police patrolling party in Sopore, the spokesman condoled that the death of an elderly civilian, Abdul Rashid Dar in the shootout.

He said the number of mounting tragedies in Kashmir is devastating families and one more has been added to them.
Praying for the life of the constable Ashok Kumar and another civilian who got injured in the incident, the spokesman said the PDP believes that no objectives would ever be served by violence and the devastation caused in last 23 years has made that amply clear.

The spokesman said though the entire population of the state believes in peaceful methods of expression, “the present government has unfortunately closed peaceful options. It would be tragic if in their frustration with the failures of the government the youth were again to pick up arms,” he said and expressed hope that good sense would prevail and violent methods abandoned once and for all.
