Peoples Democratic Party Monday said that the party is not thinking about fresh elections in the state while the political stalemate continues in the state after the death of former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

“We have not thought about fresh elections in the state. The government formation is under discussion,” PDP’s senior leader Naeem Akhtar told KNS in Bijbehara when asked about fresh elections in the state after the demise of former chief minister and PDP patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, on January 7.

Akhtar was speaking on the side lines of ‘chehlum’ ceremony of former chief minister, late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who passed away on January 7.

The PDP leader said that the government will be formed at appropriate time in the state “if the alliance is written in our fate”.

On the purported visit of BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav to meet PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP leader evaded a direct reply.

“Some leaders in BJP are going to meet Mehbooba Ji today, but I don’t know who these leaders are,” he said.

Akhtar said that the PDP patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has laid out a path of peace and development in the state and the party with its workers will follow the same roadmap.

“Mufti Sahab chose the path of peace and development and led the people without playing any politics with them. He respected his workers, which are the resources of the party. PDP will follow Mufti Sahab’s path and will respect the workers in the party,” Akhtar said.

Terming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as ‘the party of brave persons’, Akhtar said that PDP will follow the mission of peace and development of patron, late Mufti Sayeed whether irrespective of being in power or not.

Akhtar said that Mufti never compromised in any matter. “We will follow the mission and path that he had showed to us,” he said.
