The civilians who were injured, few of them critically, in Kakpora area on Sunday after when an encounter broke out between militants and forces are being treated in GMC hospitals here and doctors said that few have critical injuries but “are stable”.
Amir Ahmad Mir, 20, of Ratnipora, who was admitted in SMHS hospital on Sunday evening after a tear gas shell hit his abdomen, has to live his life without spleen as it was hit by a tear gas shell.
“We have removed his spleen as it had ruptured due to a tear gas shell hitting his abdomen, and penetrated into the spleen,” doctors in SMHS told KNS.
“He is stable but he will be prone to infections. He has to take extra care in his life not to get infected,” the doctors said.
Amir is being treated at Ward 12 in SMHS hospital here.
Amir’s elder brother, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, said that Amir had gone to play in Lelhaar cricket ground when army and police started firing on the youth playing in the ground.
“While they were playing, encounter started nearby in Kakpora and after the encounter was over, army and police fired on the youth who were running away due to panic created by the encounter. Amir was injured in his abdomen in the indiscriminate firing,” Ajaz said.
Amir’s father, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, is a labourer and he has an elder brother and three sisters.
Amir was rushed to Pulwama hospital on a motorcycle on Sunday evening where doctors referred him to SMHS.
Ghulam Mohi Ud Din Lone, 38, of Lelhaar village, who was hit in his abdomen, has a “fire arm injury”.
“On Sunday noon, Mohi Ud Din went to attend an engagement function of his cousin sister at his uncle’s home in Lelhar. Soon encounter started in Kakpora. While the encounter was on-going, Army and police started indiscriminate firing in Lelhar. Mohi Ud Din was hit by a bullet in his abdomen at his uncle’s house, which is 1.5 km away from the encounter site,” Abdul Hameed Lone, bother of Mohi Ud Din said.
Doctors in the hospital added that Mohi Ud Din has been injured by a firearm in his abdomen. “His stomach and intestines have been injured. About 10 cm of his intestines have been removed in surgery, and his stomach has also been operated upon,” the doctors informed.
Mohi Ud Din is a carpenter and has two sons, one is 5 years old and the younger one is 2 years old. Hameed said.
“After getting hit by a bullet, we shifted him to Samboora village from Lelhar across the Jhelum river on a boat. From there, we rushed him to Pampore Sub district hospital where doctors referred him here,” Hameed, who is attending to his brother, said.
Seven other injured persons have been shifted to Bones and Joints Hospital here.
Doctors in the hospital further said that six of the injured have bullet injuries and one has pellet injury.
“All the injured had peripheral injuries in muscles and bones of limbs. They are all stable. Five have been discharged after treatment and two are admitted here,” said a doctor in the hospital, who wished not to be named.
