Reacting to the central government’s recent revelation that 1.27 lakh ration cards have been cancelled in Jammu and Kashmir since 2013, Parra condemned the government’s silence on the matter.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Parra expressed his concerns, “On what basis has the government cancelled 1.27 lakh ration cards in J&K? Lakhs received additional ration under the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme aimed at fighting hunger. However, the government’s silence on this critical issue, despite grand claims of increased ration quantities in their manifesto, is shocking and indicative of a tactical understanding.”

The move, according to Minister of State Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, is part of a broader initiative to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries through digital verification methods, such as Aadhaar linkage and e-KYC.

The minister further highlighted that nearly 100 per cent of ration cards in J&K are now Aadhaar-seeded, enabling the identification of ineligible beneficiaries due to migration, duplicate entries, and deaths. (KNO)
