SRINAGAR: Authorities placed Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq under house arrest late Wednesday evening ahead of Fatiha Khwani scheduled at the Martyrs’ Graveyard in Eidgah, Srinagar, according to a statement issued by Mirwaiz Manzil, the Office of the Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz Manzil said that Farooq was confined to his residence ahead of the scheduled prayers, while access to Mazare Shuhada at Eidgah has also been restricted by the authorities since Wednesday.
The statement further said that entry to the graveyard area remains restricted.
