Police arrested a man with Charas in Shopian District last evening while eight gamblers were detained in North Kashmir’s Baramulla.

Police during patrolling apprehended a man identified as Abdul Hamid Sheikh, resident of Batpora Shopian near DIET Batpora. On his search police recovered 330 grams of Charas. Shopian Police has registered a case FIR number 39/16 under section 8/20 NDPS Act against him and further investigation is going on, a police statement said Monday evening.

Meanwhile, continuing its drives against the social crime, Baramulla police arrested eight gamblers and recovered stake money over Rs 25 thousands from the gambling site.

A police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO Baramulla Ayaz Geelani and IPS probationer, Amrit Paul raided a gambling place i.e. Bus Stand Baramulla.

During the raid eight gamblers were held and stake money of Rs 25270 has been recovered from the gambling site, the statement said.

The gamblers were identified as Rayees Ahmad Shah Danish Ahmad Parry, Shahid Ahmad Mir, Abdul Qayoom Dar, Abdul Hamid Yatoo, Sabzar Ahmad Yatoo, Ishfaq Ahmad Marrdoos and Bilal Ahmad Wani.
