SRINAGAR: Police in North Kashmir’s Sopore have cracked a theft case with the arrest of seven accused and recovery of stolen property.
According to police, the investigation began after Police Station Panzalla received a complaint from Suheel Shafi Mir, Assistant Executive Engineer of the Mechanical New Lift Sub-Division (MICD) Srinagar, regarding a theft at the Lift Irrigation Scheme Check-Gujri Station (Stage 2nd). An FIR (No. 66/2025) was registered and an inquiry was launched.
During questioning of multiple suspects, police said one individual, Ubaid Riyaz Dar of Untoo Hamam Sopore, confessed to his involvement. He disclosed that he, along with five others—identified as Kaiser Ahmad Dar, Kaiser Nazir Dar, Majid Ahmad Dar alias Muqaib, Javaid Ahmad Dar and Usman Nazir Dar, all from Ningli Sopore—had jointly carried out the theft.
He further revealed that the stolen material was sold to a scrap dealer, Bilal Ahmad Dar, also a resident of Ningli Sopore. Acting on this information, police recovered the stolen goods from a godown on Sofi Akbar Road, Bypass Ningli Sopore.
All seven accused have been arrested and remain in custody.
Police said the case remains under investigation and reiterated their commitment to swift action and safeguarding public assets.
