Police on Wednesday said that it arrested 2 eve-teasers in Srinagar after a complaint lodged by a girl student in police station Safa-Kadal.

Police said that it took cognizance of the report appeared in a section of press about the alarming incidents of eve-teasing in Sunderkul area of Chattabal and after visits by police officials in the area two eve-teasers were arrested while police after interacting with locals assured them strict action will be taken against the eve-teasers.

Police sources said that a police team comprising of SP city North, Tahir Saleem Khan, SDPO MR Gunj, SHO Safakadal and Incharge Police Post Bagiyas went on patrol in the whole area of Sunderkul Chattabal area of Srinagar city. They assured the Public that stern action will be taken against eve-teasers and a Police vehicle will be stationed at Dareeshkadal Chowk so that any victim of eve teasing could approach Police immediately.

Talking to CNS, SP city North who was heading the police team said that a girl student of 10th standard hailing from the locality lodged a complaint against some eve-teasers who harass her while going to tuition and back to home. “On this compliant, Police arrested 2 eve teasers namely Saqib Safi Wani son of Muhammad Safi resident of Baghesunder Ballah and Suhail Majeed Malla son of Abdul Majeed resident of Safakadal.”

 A case vide FIR number 7/2014 under section 294 RPC have been registered in Police Station Safakadal against the arrested eve teasers.

SP Tahir Saleem said that people should feel free in approaching to Police Stations or contact Police Officers regarding such complaints. “Police is meant to serve people and we are always at their disposal,” he said.
