Shopian police have launched a massive crackdown against the timber smugglers by arresting twenty-three timber smugglers, a statement issued to the media said. The detained include four notorious individuals involved in a number of forest smuggling cases.
During the campaign, police have recovered timber measuring 216.31 Cft.
On Sunday, the statement said, one notorious forest smuggler namely Gowhar Parray @ Setha son of Gulla Parray resident of Chowan Keller was booked under PSA and lodged in District Jail Kot Balwal Jammu. Three other timber smugglers namely Shafi Ladi son of Alim Din resident of Nasarpora Keller, Riyaz Paswa son of Munshi Paswal, Sajad Paswal son of Talib Paswal residents of Shalidara have been booked under PSA in last 15 days.
