Police on Wednesday claimed that a militant responsible for Pattan attack has been apprehended in central Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police spokesman said that based on credible inputs that some militants are traveling on Baramulla-Srinagar highway, a police naka party deployed at Baba Teng Pattan were checking the vehicles. During checking, while a passenger vehicle was signaled to stop, militants boarding the vehicle lobbed a hand grenade on police party.

In the incident, DySP Zaffar Mehdi and two other policemen Shabir Ahmad and Ashiq Hussain sustained injuries and were evacuated to hospital and are said to be stable now.

The spokesman said that soon after the incident, the assailants were chased and one militant identified as Faizan Majeed Bhat, son of Abdul Majeed Bhat resident of Naibug Tral was apprehended. Bhat, according to the police had joined the outfit recently.

Bhat along with another militant Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Awantipora, who earlier managed to escape had joined Tehreekul Mujahideen.

In this regard, Police has registered a case and further investigations have been taken up.
