SRINAGAR: On the occasion of ‘Police Commemoration Day,’ Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid homage to the police officers and personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. At the ceremony held at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Armed Police Complex, Zewan, the Lt Governor also paid tribute to civilians martyred in the Gagangir attack.
LG Sinha lauded the selfless sacrifice of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces, whose efforts have been instrumental in bringing peace and stability to the region. “I salute the brave hearts of our Police. Their legacy will live on in our hearts. On this day, let us commit ourselves to uphold the values they stood for—courage, unity, and service to the nation,” he said.
The Lt Governor stressed that the success of police and security forces in combating militancy has paved the way for normalcy, leading to rapid development and economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of police personnel and their families.
“Peace and stability have enabled the smooth conduct of Parliamentary Elections, JK Assembly polls, and the peaceful Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. It is now time for all to leverage the dividends of this peace, particularly the youth, who are the future of this region,” LG Sinha said, urging citizens to remain united and vigilant against forces that seek to disrupt peace and harmony.
He also pledged continued support for the police, army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), asking the public to stand by these institutions as they work to safeguard the nation. In addition, the Lt Governor called for a dedicated campaign to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free and highlighted the need for enhanced training and coordination among police personnel for effective counter-terrorism operations.
Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, read the names of the police martyrs who lost their lives in the line of duty this year. The ceremony included a two-minute silence and a solemn reversal of arms in honor of the fallen heroes.
As part of the commemoration, the Lt Governor also visited a Blood Donation Camp organized to mark the occasion.
