SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar district of central Kashmir on Wednesday demolished an illegally constructed property, estimated to be worth around Rs 1.5 crore, which was allegedly linked to a wanted drug peddler in the Lal Bazar area.
Officials said personnel from Police Station Lal Bazar carried out the demolition of a two-storey unauthorised structure, along with an adjacent room and washroom, built on state land at Haka Bazar, Lal Bazar. The property, spread over roughly nine marlas, was reportedly associated with Arshid Ahmed Sheikh, son of Wali Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Haka Bazar, who is wanted in several cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police stated that Sheikh is involved in FIR No. 31/2025 registered at Police Station Janipur, Jammu under Sections 8/21 and 22 of the NDPS Act, and FIR No. 50/2025 registered at Police Station Lal Bazar under Section 8/20 of the same Act.
The demolition was conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate Khanyar and officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Authorities said the action was taken in accordance with legal procedures as part of ongoing measures to dismantle illegal assets linked to the narcotics trade.
Police confirmed the operation was carried out peacefully under supervision.
Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to curbing drug-related activity and urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting drug peddling and other unlawful activities in their areas.
