Police have detained at least 24 persons in connection with the blazing incident that occurred on July 5 when after the death of a militant agitated protestors allegedly set two police armoured vehicles on fire near Aripal area of South Kashmir’s Tral town.

Protestors mostly youth had attacked government forces and torched two of their armoured vehicles after the death of  Hizb militant in Aripal area during a gun battle with Joint team of Army and Para-military troopers on July 5.

Police sources told CNS that from past two days police detained at least 24 suspects from Pastuna, Aripal, Gadhpora and Dar Ganaie Gund Tral areas.

Sources added that police have picked up 7 youth from Pastuna, 7 from Aripal, 3 youth from Gadhpora and 8 suspects from Dar Ganaie Gund Tral.

Detainees included two brothers Nadeem Ahmed Mir and Nayeem Ahmed Mir. “They are the sons of a police official and we have called them for questioning,” a police officer said.

Station House Officer Tral, Nazir Ahmed said that they are thoroughly questioning the suspects. “We don’t want that any innocent get booked for the fault of his none. We are investigating the matter thoroughly and hopefully within two days the real suspected will be identified and innocent be released,” he said.
