SRINAGAR: Police on Wednesday foiled the ‘Raj Bhavan March’ programme of daily wagers in Srinagar by resorting to lathi-charge and detained scores of them.
Protestors had assembled here at Sheri-Kashmir park in Srinagar under the banner of J&K Casual Daily Wagers Forum, an amalgam of different Daily-Rated Workers Associations from Srinagar and Jammu.
The march by the temporary employees who are working in various government departments in Jammu and Kashmir in support of their demands including implementation of Minimum Wages Act and regularization of their services was foiled by police soon after it started from Sher-I-Kashmir park.
Police also use coloured water and detained scores of the protesting casual and daily-wage workers. The protesters were led by president Sajad Ahmad Parray.
According to them, around 80 workers were also taken into preventive detention.
Before arrest while talking to reporters Sajad Parray said the authorities should regularize the services of daily wagers without any further delay and implement the Minimum Wages Act. He said that thousands of families are suffering due to the delay caused by authorities.
He said they would continue to fight for their right. “Sometimes we are assured that our services will be regularized and sometimes we are asked to wait till policy for our regularization is formed,” he added.
