Police Seize Five Vehicles in Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Shopian

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday seized five vehicles, including two JCB machines, two tractors and a tipper, for their alleged involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the Zainapora and Imamsahib areas.

According to officials, a police team from Police Station Zainapora intercepted and seized one JCB and one tipper during routine patrolling. The vehicles were allegedly being used for extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents.

Police said a case under FIR No. 76/2026 has been registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant sections of law, and investigation has been initiated.

In a separate operation, a police team from Police Station Imamsahib seized one JCB and two tractors allegedly engaged in illegal mining activities without the required permission.

Officials said FIR No. 35/2026 has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.

Police said action against illegal mining activities will continue across the district and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in protecting natural resources.
