SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced that a policy for the establishment of private universities in the Union Territory has been drafted.
In a written reply to a cut motion by Peoples Conference MLA Sajad Gani Lone, Higher Education Minister Sakina Itoo informed that the Higher Education Department has prepared the policy after extensive deliberations. It is now under examination by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
She added that once the policy receives approval, proposals for setting up private universities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The minister also noted that there are currently no private universities in Jammu and Kashmir, but several demands for their establishment have been received, highlighting the necessity for such institutions in the region.
