Centaur Lake View hotel.

Here is what is cooking in Centaur on picturesque Dal Lake these days: The Jammu and Kashmir government wants the prized possession, there is a hitch involved. The state government wants its pie without absorbing pie-makers and other employees working in the hotel.

Sources having access to the details said that the aviation ministry are not really opposed to handing over the Centaur Srinagar — a subsidiary of Air India — to the state government, “but they want the total 250 hotel employees to be absorbed as well”.

Amid these different political positions, the fate of the prime locale hotel has remained hanged — as sources said deciding this issue will take time.

Notably, this 252-room Srinagar hotel has statutory dues of Rs 200 crore apart from massive accumulated losses.

During Manmohan Singh-led UPA-II government, DB Realty Group subsidiary BD and P Hotels (India) Private Limited had bagged 30-year management rights of the Srinagar Centaur Hotel in September 2010.

But the then state government-led by Omar Abdullah had opposed the deal as it wanted its tourism development corporation to run the hotel.
