SRINAGAR

Two inmates at Srinagar Central Jail on Sunday tried to escape the jail premises via a building-top which was thwarted by Police immediately, sources said.

The duo under trials who tried to flee from the roof of building are facing murder charges, sources said.

The jail sources told GNS that the escape bid was meticulously planned by the duo from past few months.

Jail authorities have identified the under trials as Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh and Ghulab Sheikh, both residents of Shopian districts.

“Soon after the duo tried to flee over the roof top of a building, the cops guarding there suspected their movement and caught hold of them immediately,” the sources added.

When contacted Director General Prisons, K. Rajendra told GNS that it was an attempt which was foiled by our brave forces. “Both have been arrested,” he added.

Meanwhile, Police Station Rainawari has registered a case FIR No. 224-RPC and further investigation has been taken up.
