Responding to Police claims that hundreds of youth participating in Geelani’s rally pelted stones on police and CRPF personnel deployed in Sopore, Syed Ali Geelani said that stone pelting is the ‘handiwork of security agencies.’

Lashing out at these stone-pelters, Geelani earlier in his address at Dobgah Sopore said that these stone-pelters can’t be pro-freedom people. “These are men from different security agencies who want to disturb my rallies and defame me. I appeal people to identify them and keep them at bay during our rallies,” he said.

Pertinently according to reports, as thousands of people started marching from Sopore to Doabgah, scores of youth who were part of the rally resorted to stone pelting which created panic there. Those people who were not aware about this development ran for safety.

An eyewitness told CNS that peace disturbed in the town after Geelani left the venue. “Youth were seen collecting the stone as Geelani Sahab was ready to leave the venue. Everything was peaceful till then, even Geelani Sahab appealed to youth to be peaceful and not to resort to violence,” he said.

Police official said that it was necessary for the police to respond as the procession was big and laxity could have proven fatal. “We brought situation under control and everything is normal there,” he said.
