Shortly after funeral prayers of Zahid Rasool Bhat held early Monday, strong pro-freedom protests followed by clashes between forces and youth broke out in Batengoo village of Islamabad down South Kashmir.
Zahid from South Kashmir’s Batengoo village was charred by goons in Udhampur in the intervening night of September 9-10 early this month. After being hospitalized for many days, Zahid succumbed to his burn injuries yesterday at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
In face of relentless protests that broke in the area despite restrictions, police and paramilitary had to resort to tear-gas shelling to disperse the protesters.
