SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said that they have attached property valued above 3 crores belonging to a drug peddler in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar district.
A police spokesperson in a statement said that Srinagar Police had attached properties worth more than 3 crores under the provisions of Section 68 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
“Srinagar Police had attached a three-storey residential house belonging to drug peddler Abdul Ahad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sultan Bhat, resident of Banpora Batamaloo. The property, located on land bearing Khewat No. 137 and Khasra No. 294 (Abadi Deh) at Banpora Batamaloo, is valued at Rs 65 lakhs. This action was taken under Section 68 of the NDPS Act in case FIR No. 31 of 2024. The accused is a known drug peddler who sold narcotics to youth, leading to the registration of case FIR No. 31/2024 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Shaheed Gunj, where a substantial quantity of narcotics was recovered,” it reads.
In another case, the statement adds that a three-storey residential house estimated at Rs 2.5 crores, was attached. “The property belongs to Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, father of Jan Manzoor Bhat, a resident of Natipora. This action was taken under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act. The accused, Jan Manzoor Bhat, is also a drug peddler who supplied narcotics to youth in the area. Case FIR No. 35/2024 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chanapora.”
Both properties were acquired through the proceeds of illegal narcotics trade and have been attached with confirmation from the competent authority and administrator of SAFEMA and NDPS, the spokesman said.
In accordance with Sections 68E and 68F of the NDPS Act, immovable property acquired by the accused through illegal means that is seized or attached cannot be transferred, sold, purchased, or otherwise dealt with without prior permission from the competent authority, he added.
