Hundreds of people from Methan and Gulshan Nagar Channapora areas of Srinagar City staged a massive protest against Power Development Department and alleged that Assistant Executive Engineer Sub-Division Chanapora is acting in an autocratic manner and is accusing and abusing people of power theft when nobody in these areas resort to hooking.
The protestors blocked Mehtan Bypass due to which trafficular movement came to a halt and hundreds of people got stranded in the traffic jam. The protestors including men, women and children were demanding immediate removal of AEE for his ill-reputation in the area.
“Whole Methan area is reeling under darkness from past two days as the AEE Sub Division Chanapora has snapped the power supply. All he did because one of the respectable citizen could now swallow his abusive language and called him the biggest rogue present in PDD,” one of the protestors told CNS adding that said AEE has made the lives of people hell as he does not listen to anyone.
Another protestor said that said AEE is resorting to corruption and malpractices. “He has his own network which helps him to accumulate sums of bribe. Without any reason he is accusing and abusing people. We will continue our protest against this PDD official till he is not transfered,” Zahid Ahmed said.
Top police official reached on spot as fleet of vehicles were trapped in heavy traffic jam due to protest. The police officials assured the protestors that it would take up the issue with the higher ups of Power Development Department. Later on protestors dispersed peacefully.
A top official of PDD told CNS that he would look into the matter. “Let me see on what grounds people are protesting and what the real situation is,” he said adding if proven guilty the official will face the music.
The official further said that these protestors even approached him and, “I assured them action would initiated against AEE if found guilty,” he said.
