Business community from Mominabad Batamaloo Thursday observed a complete shutdown against police inaction to arrest a ‘so-called’ NRI who allegedly demolished some shops in absence of shop owners and authorities.
According to traders, a the “NRI”, Nasir Sheikh of Batamaloo who resides in The United States of America, used bulldozers to demolish some shops in absence of shop owners.
During the process the goods worth lakhs of rupees got destroyed. The traders who observed shutdown demanded immediate arrest of the NRI. “Let us assume it is the property of the so-called NRI. At least he should have informed the shop-keepers to vacate his shops. But he resorted to illegal means and demolished the shops causing damage to stock worth lakhs of rupees belonging to affected shopkeepers,” president Traders Federation Momin Abad, Byepass Tengpora, Srinagar Ajaz Shahdhar told CNS.
He said that irony is that Station House Officer Batamaloo informed them that he can’t arrest the guilty NRI and he had to “seek permission from US embassy”. “The NRI has snatched livelihood of scores of shopkeepers and police are reluctant to arrest and take action against him. This is disgusting,” he said.
“All efforts are on to nab the culprits. The owner of the building in Batamaloo demolished some shops in absence of the shopkeepers. The shopkeepers protested and demanded his arrest. We are on job and will surely initiate action those who take law in their own hands,” a police official said.
Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments remained shut in Batamaloo while people demanded strict action against the NRI who according to them caused damage to the stock of poor shopkeepers.
