Protests erupted in North Kashmir’s Palhalan village when according to eye witnesses men from police’s Special Task Force wing damaged the vehicle of local sumo driver Parvez Ahmad Gojri.

According to reports, men from STF  were searching for Parvez who according to reports is wanted in case of stone pelting which occurred on the eve of Eid. Parvez was not present on the spot but his vehicle was. Infuriated, the men damaged his vehicle which provoked people.

“Men from STF  came asking for Parvez who was not present at that time but his vehicle was. Infuriated, the men damaged the vehicle,” a local wishing not to be named told Kashmir Life over phone.

As the news spread, people spontaneously closed their shops and business establishments  and came on roads. This resulted in pitched battle.

The locals alleged that using force to quell protesters, Police along with CRPF barged one kilometer inside village and resorted to tear gas shelling and baton charging. They told Kashmir Life that one youth was also arrested.

“Police and CRPF came inside one kilometer and started tear gas shelling. even one youth was arrested,” said a local to Kashmir Life.

The protests from all the four sides of area are going on till the last reports came in.
