Independent MLA representing Langate constituency in state legislature, Er Rasheed was Monday put under house arrest as a heavy contingent of police cordoned his residence and didn’t allow him to come out of his house to prevent him from visiting Pulwama.

A statement issued by AIP said, Rasheed was scheduled to protest against the brutal killing of Shaista Hamid and Danish Mir in Pulwama. Shaista and Danish were killed in forces action in Lelhaar area of Pulwama on Sunday.

Talking to media persons at his residence Rasheed rejected any probe and said, “there is no fun in ordering a probe which as usual would yield nothing as GoI is treating Kashmiris as its enemies and has decided as a policy matter to cover every atrocity on Kashmiris.”

“All cosmetic measures will yield nothing unless GoI gives-up its arrogance and ensures respect towards human rights,” he added.

Meanwhile, scores of AIP workers defying strict police restrictions managed to carry a strong protest march in Srinagar today against the killings, the statement said.

Protestors started their march from Zero-Bridge towards Lal-Chowk but were stopped ahead of Regal Chowk where police used force to disburse the protestors and arrested more than a dozen activists including Mohammad Adil Hussain, Adv Mujib and Imtiyaz Alam and lodged them in Kothi-Bagh police station.

The protestors were raising slogans against the unprovoked and unwanted firing by the army that resulted in killing of Shaista Hameed and Danish Mir.
