SRINAGAR: Former JK PCC President Vikar Rasool said on Thursday that Congress faced significant challenges over the past two years, during which 70 percent of the party’s structure was dismantled.
Addressing a Congress workers’ meeting in Srinagar, Vikar, said that Congress experienced a series of setbacks in the past two years. “As a disciplined soldier of the party, I, along with my team, worked hard to restructure the party, and the results are now evident,” he said, while All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi listened attentively.
Vikar also said that he is prepared to take on any responsibility within the party. “If the AICC leadership were to assign me the role of a chaprasi (peon), I would accept it with great honour and pride,” he said.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of the erstwhile State, Tara Chand, remarked that JK had lost its identity and special status over the past decade. “Today, I want to say that Rahulji is embodying the role of Indira Gandhi. Late Indiraji would provide a personal touch to the party and the people of J&K during times of uncertainty. Rahulji has adopted the same approach and ideology,” Chand said.
Former JK PCC Chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir expressed his pleasure at seeing AICC Chief and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in JK. “Your visit is a significant morale booster for all the workers of the PCC. You have arrived at a time when the election campaign is gearing up, and this will undoubtedly give a new impetus to the party,” he said.
