SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will visit Poonch on May 24 to meet families of those killed and affected by recent Pakistani shelling in the region.
This will be his second visit to Jammu and Kashmir in a month, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead, including 25 tourists.
Quoting party sources, Daily Excelsior reported that Gandhi will be accompanied by senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary and JK incharge Dr Naseer Hussain. JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra confirmed the visit, stating Gandhi will arrive in Jammu on Saturday morning and then travel to Poonch by helicopter.
An advance team led by AICC secretary Shahnawaz Choudhary, along with MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed, has been deployed in Poonch to coordinate the visit. Karra has also reached Poonch to review the situation and liaise with the administration.
Depending on logistical arrangements, Gandhi may fly via Srinagar. After meeting affected families and assessing the damage, he is expected to return to Delhi in the afternoon, the report added.
