SRINAGAR: A militant has been killed, and two others are likely trapped as forces thwarted repeated attempts by the militants to escape.

Sources told news agency KS that after initial contact, Indian Army troops moved to the area and pinned down militants assessed to be up to 2-3.

Additional troops of Rashtriya Rifles were mobilised as the terrain is undulating and forested. Special Forces were brought in by Indian Air Force helicopter, they said.

“Repeated attempts by militants to break the cordon were thwarted by controlled fire throughout the night,” they added.

“Night-enabled Quadcopters, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and Sniffer Dogs were also used,” he said, adding that one militant was confirmed killed while the firefight is still ongoing.

Rashtriya Rifles troops of the Indian Army and Special forces have closed in on the other militants, officials said.

The search for the others is in progress. (KS)
