Chenab Valley

Complete shutdown was Friday observed in Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar Thathri-Bhalessa and Banihal area of Chenab Valley over the Rajouri communal tensions. Police personnel and Para Military forces were engaged in sensitive parts of the region to avoid any untoward incident.

The Hartal call was given by different religious organizations and Masjid committees of Doda, Bhaderwah ,Kishtwar, Thathri-Bhalesa and Banihal.

Protest demonstrations were held in different places over the Rajouri incident where activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal torched an ISL flag with a verse from holy Quran on it during the Eid celebration.

Soon after the Friday prayers the people in Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Thathri, Banihal and various other places of Chenab Valley gathered out side their respective Masjids and started protesting; they raised pro Islam ,pro Muslim and pro Azadi slogans.

At different places protest demonstrations were taken through different streets and main markets and culminated outside the offices of district administration where religious leaders delivered speeches. The speakers demanded immediate arrest of Shiv Sena, VHP and Bajrang Dal activists who are responsible for Rajouri incident and creating communal tension among the communities in the region.

The members of Muslim community also presented memorandum to the local administrative authorities with some genuine demands related to the Rajouri incident.

Additional cops and armed forces have been engaged in communally sensitive areas of major townships in Chenab Valley. However, there was no untoward incident reported in any part of Chenab Valley today. And there was complete shutdown in every part of this hilly region and streets wore deserted look.
