Independent lawmaker Er Rasheed has sought the help of ruling National Conference and the main opposition PDP to ensure the discussion on his resolution about the return of the mortal remains of Afzal Guru.

“I just want to tell them ( National Conference and PDP) to not only support my resolution but also make it sure that the same is not sabotaged by the balloting process,” MLA Langate said in a press conference here on Monday.

Clearing that he has already brought a resolution on the return of Afzal Guru’s body in the upcoming Assembly session, Rasheed said, “Mainstream trio-NC, PDP and Congress will look for an excuse to exit from the resolution.”

“I have already presented a resolution and if NC-PDP really want to bring back the body of Guru, then they should support my resolution,” Rashid said.

He asked the chief minister and leader of the opposition, Mehbooba Mufti, that if they want to bring the resolution on their own then he was ready to withdraw his resolution. “If CM or leader of the opposition would bring the resolution that is sure to come for the discussion, I assure both of them that if they are sincere enough to bring back the mortal remains of Afzal, and they bring a resolution of their own then I am ready to take back my resolution to pave the way for theirs.” He said.

He went on to say that chief minister can himself bring the resolution in the assembly, “I will remind him his tweet he did about the Tamil Nadu state assembly regarding Rajive Gandhi murder convicts.”

He expressed serious concerns about the proposed controversial police bill that is scheduled to be moved in the upcoming assembly session. “Some Politician are saying that the bill will revive Ikhwani wave again in state, but I fail to understand when Ikhwanis call their day in the state,” he said adding “Ikhwanis are even in the assembly”.

On the continuous house arrest of chairman Hurriyat (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, in Delhi, Rashid said such a move is condemnable and the way NC member parliament,  GN Rattanpuri was not allowed to meet the old ailing leader, is enough to understand the position of a Kashmiri lawmaker.
