Razdan Top, Peer Ki Gali Receive Fresh Snow; Rain Predicted Across Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Light snowfall was reported in several upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on the morning of May 31. Razdan Top recorded about three inches of snow, while Peer Ki Gali saw an accumulation of two to three inches. The Minamarg-Drass area received one to two inches. Snowfall continued at all three locations. At Sinthan Pass, light snowfall began but no major accumulation was reported. A further dip in temperature may lead to snowfall over other higher reaches.

According to the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, river and stream levels remained within normal limits as of 9:00 a.m. River Jhelum at Sangam stood at 3.80 feet (flood mark: 21′), Pampore at 0.26 metres (mark: 4.5m), Munshibagh at 6.83 feet (mark: 18′), Asham at 5.09 feet (mark: 14′), and Wullar Lake at 1575.80 metres against the flood mark of 1578.00m. Among tributaries, Vishow Nallah at Khudwani measured 2.75 metres, Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi 0.33 metres, Lidder Nallah at Batkoot 0.45 metres, Doodhganga Nallah at Barzulla 1.07 metres, and Sindh Nallah at Doderhama 1.00 metre.

Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said light to moderate rain and thundershowers were reported at most locations during the past 24 hours. He added that intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thunder are expected to continue across most areas on May 31, with snowfall possible over isolated higher reaches. A few places may also witness moderate to heavy rain, intense showers, and gusty winds.
