All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was Saturday placed under house arrest by the authorities for the fourth consecutive day at his Nigeen residence as he was scheduled to address a religious congregation about the historic event of Karbala at Alam Sahab Narwara Srinagar.

In a statement to KNS, Mirwaiz paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Karbala, particularly Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), and said that with his martyrdom and by standing up for the truth and against the evil, he has given a message to the entire humanity, particularly to the Muslims.

He said for protecting the Islamic tradition, customs and education, Hazrat Imam Husain (RA) showed courage and conviction to offer sacrifice of his life in 61 Hijri along with his beloved ones, which would go on to serve as a lesson for the entire humanity until the Day of Judgment.

The valley’s chief cleric said, “placing restrictions and curbs on the religious activities like attending religious gatherings and peaceful processions during the pious days of the Muharram was an infringement in religious rights of Muslims.”

He condemned the use of force on the peaceful processions and imposing of curfew and curfew-like restrictions in Srinagar, south Kashmir’s Islamabad and Kulgam regions, which created great inconvenience to the people.

Mirwaiz said, “it was a deliberate ploy to hurt the sentiments of the Kashmiri Muslims and the recent incident of desecration of the holy Quran in Bhaderwah was another example in this regard.”

Meanwhile, the Hurriyat (m) spokesperson said, “on this day in 1945, the United Nations Organisation (UNO) had come into existence to ensure world peace and after just three years, Kashmir dispute was taken to the UN but even after seven decades, the issue remains pending without a resolution.”

He said, “the unresolved Kashmir had become a problem for regional peace and also for the people of Jammu Kashmir, who were being subjected to grave human rights violations.” “The unresolved Kashmir has become a big question mark on the credibility of the UNO.”

He said, “besides the house arrest of the Hurriyat (m) Chairperson, police detained other Hurriyat leader including Moulvi Abbas Ansari, Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, Javaid Ahmad Mir, other Hurriyat activists. It is condemnable.”

The Hurriyat amalgam while paying tributes to two local youth, Irshad Ahmad Sheikh and Adil Hussain Khanday, who were killed in a gunfight with the forces at Manzoorpora Shopian, the spokesperson said, “the Hurriyat leadership would not rest until the mission of these youth reaches its logical conclusion.”

A delegation of the Hurriyat comprising of Manzoor Ahmad Wani, Farooq Ahmad, Ishfaq Ahmad, Muhammad Yousuf and others visited Ati-pora, Kunzar Tangmarg and offered Fateh Khawani of Nisar Ahmad Wani, who was killed in a gun fight recently.

The delegation paid tributes to the slain youth on behalf of the Mirwaiz and assured the people in the area that Hurriyat would not allow the sacrifices of Nisar Ahmad Wani and other youth go waste.

Meanwhile, the Shia Sunni Coordination Committee led processions continued to pay tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

On the directions of Mirwaiz, a team comprising of Sofi Mushtaq Ahmad, Dr Mohsin, Umar Wazir, Abdul Qayoom Wani, Feroz Ahmad, Manzoor Ahmad Talha, and Sahil Ahmad organized a free medical camp at Zadibal Srinagar, which was visited by a large number of people, who were provided proper medical care.
