Fresh violence occurred in the southern towns of Pulwama and Shopian resulting in the shutdown and re-imposition of restrictions by the authorities.

Hundreds of protesters came on roads in Pulwama and shouted anti India slogans. The district authorities swung into action and re-deployed the forces. The protesters pelted stones on them who retaliated by tear gas shelling and cane charching.

“Forces fired in air and used pepper gas to disperse the protesters which resulted in chaos and tension,” locals told Kashmir Life on phone. They added that police and forces re-imposed restrictions in the town.

Shopian, another town in south Kashmir also witnessed ding dong battles between forces and protesting youth. The protesters were shouting anti India and pro freedom slogans. The protests started near the DC office and within no time spread over to other areas of the town. District authorities have redeployed heavy contingent in the town and the situation is tense.
