Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saif-ulah on Monday said that the government is contemplating to amend the Roshni Act to extend its applicability across the State for one year more.

During his interaction with various delegations and a large number of people at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, held as part of the initiative taken by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to address to the issues of the people, the Minister said the step is aimed at disposing of the pending cases and covering those who could not benefit from the Act so far.

Elaborating, the Minister said that due to lack of awareness, especially in the far off and remote areas of the State, the people in possession of land have not been able to benefit from the scheme for one reason or the other. He said a massive drive is also being launched to generate awareness among the masses in this regard.

Mir Saif-ullah said that proper procedure will be adopted and necessary verification carried out while settling the cases of those in lease or possession of land.
