Residents of Reshanhar Nawakadal area of Eidgah Monday said that their homes have been without electricity since early morning snowfall on Friday. The power transformer of the locality encountered some technical fault.

They said despite bringing the issue into the notice of the concerned, there hasn’t been any action so far. “Our transformer encountered some problem and despite repeated calls to the authorities, it was not repaired,” said Khursheed Ahmad, a resident.

“The problem could have been fixed within minutes, but the linemen did not pay heed to our repeated pleas,” he added.

However, against the violation of norms, the residents were forced to contribute rupees hundred per household and had to offer the amount to PDD employees to get the problem fixed.

“We were asked to pay rupees hundred each to get the power problem fixed. Else, we would be reeling in dark,” said another resident.

The residents said that it is a routine affair and that whenever such a snag turns up, the linemen make them beg for the repair work.

When Kashmir Life contacted Abdul Hameed, executive engineer PDD, Srinagar division – III, transmission wing, he feigned ignorance regarding the issue and said, “I will look into the matter and appropriate action would be taken against those who have received the money from residents.”
