Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu gave the information in response to a starred question by Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Ali on civil aviation schemes, airport projects and employment generation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Rs 1,667-crore Srinagar Airport project comprises a new integrated terminal building, extension of the apron, residential quarters for Airports Authority of India staff and CISF barracks.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation said development of an interim terminal building at Udhampur Airport is currently in the planning stage, while no airport project has so far been taken up at Kishtwar.

On regional connectivity, Naidu said two Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN routes connecting Jammu with Bathinda and Gwalior were operationalised in 2018 and 2019, respectively. The government has disbursed Rs 39.86 crore in Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for the two routes.

The minister also said Digi Yatra was implemented at Jammu and Srinagar airports on March 29, 2026.

Both airports have also been covered under the Krishi UDAN scheme, aimed at improving air transportation of agricultural and perishable products, he said.

Jammu Airport has a dedicated air cargo terminal covering 680 square metres, with an annual handling capacity of 24,800 metric tonnes. Srinagar Airport has a 1,125-square-metre dedicated air cargo terminal with an annual capacity of 41,000 metric tonnes, besides cold storage facilities.

An international air cargo facility measuring 480 square metres has also been established at Srinagar Airport, with an annual handling capacity of 8,700 metric tonnes, according to the minister.
