SOS International, a group that has been espousing the cause of Displaced Persons have accused Dr Jitendra Singh Rana of “brazenly ignoring” them. In a public meeting Rajiv Chuni said they were instrumental in sending him to Lok Sabha after which he exhibited his “heartless approach” towards this population.

The utterances came within days after the state government started implementing Rs 2000 crore package for the rehabilitation of the DPs, the erstwhile residents of PaK.

“Earlier the package was of Rs 9096 crore but due to discriminatory approach towards the refugees, the relief package was reduced to Rs 2000 crore by BJP led government,” Chuni told the meeting, as per the statement issued by SOS. “The leaders who used to make tall claims before elections turned hostile after elections.”

Chuni said the components like reservation for their wards in professional and technical colleges across India, employment package for unemployed youths in Government jobs was not considered due to lethargic attitude kept by representatives from Jammu Division in parliament.

Chuni suggested the government must consider to constituting three battalions- Mirpur Scouts, Muzaffarabad Scouts and Poonch Scouts, by recruiting the youths from their respective districts. “In this way, terrorism or infiltration can be tackled to large extent and the financial condition of refugee youth can be improved,” he said.

The SOS leader accused Dr Jitendra of using “various gimmicks” to divide DPs on different grounds for the reason best known to him. “It’s on record that during general elections, he approached SOS International to seek refugee votes and promised to help bringing justice to them but after elections, he changed his colour,” Chuni alleged. “After winning election he ditched us.”
