MLA Khanyaar, and senior party leader, Ali Mohammad Sagar is the new General Secretary of ruling National Conference.

He replaced old and ailing Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, the cousin brother of party president Dr Farooq Abdullah. Nazir is the oldest member of Abdullah family and is not keeping good health.

The decision in this effect was taken on Monday during a party’s Core Group meeting which was presided over by Dr Farooq Abdullah.

Pertinently, after Bashir Ahmad Kichlo, Sagar is the only second NC leader outside the Abdullah family who has been appointed as  NC General Secretary. Nazir enjoyed the party post for decades together.

“The party is on a way to organizational restructuring and the move is aimed to give a new and energetic face to the party so that it can overcome the losses suffered during recently held Lok Sabha polls,” party sources told Kashmir Life.

Pertinently, the party’s ore Group met more than six times since it witnessed a complete rout in the LS polls.

“The party is doing all possible efforts to gain new spirit before the state assembly polls they said.

Party insiders revealed that party president Dr Farooq after a series of deliberations with his chief minister son Omar Abdullah is in the process of re-structuring the party ahead of Assembly polls scheduled at the end of this year.
