A Sarpanch from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was today arrested after being allegedly found involved in circulating posters threatening fellow panchs and sarpanchs asking them to resign from their respective posts.

According to sources, the Sarpanch namely Gulam Nabi Mailk of Tikker Kupwara was found allegedly involved in printing and circulating fake posters of militant outfit Jamiat ul Mujahideen thereby issuing threats of panchs and sarpanchs asking them to resign or face consequences.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police headquarter Kupwara, Sajjad Khaliq Bhat confirmed arrest of the Sarpanch. “Prima facie he was found involved in issuing threats to panchs and sarpanchs and a case FIR No 26/2013 stands already registered in this case under section 506 RPC of unlawful activities act”, Dy SP told a local news agency, KNS.

Pertinently posters had appeared in the north Kashmir area in February asking the Panchayat members to ‘resign or face dire consequences’.
