Satish Sharma Reviews Muharram Arrangements During Srinagar City Tour, Orders Swift Completion of Civic Works

   

SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, and Science and Technology Satish Sharma on Tuesday toured several areas of Srinagar to review arrangements for the forthcoming Muharram observances.

The visit was aimed at assessing civic and infrastructural preparedness across key localities to ensure essential services are in place ahead of the religious period.

Sharma visited several areas including Mir Bahari, Meena Bazar, Moti Mohalla, Batt Mohalla, Gucchi Mohalla, Kathidarwaza, Madin Sahib, Tibetan Colony, Butt Colony and Mandibal. He reviewed ongoing works and examined preparedness of departments responsible for civic services.

During the inspection, the Minister reviewed arrangements related to sanitation, drainage, street lighting, drinking water supply, road connectivity and cleanliness drives. He directed the concerned departments to ensure coordinated functioning and timely completion of all works.

Sharma also reviewed preparedness of the Power Development Department (PDD) and the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED), stressing uninterrupted electricity and water supply during Muharram. He directed officials to rectify deficiencies immediately and maintain continuous monitoring of essential services during the observance period.

At Madina Sahib, the Minister inspected arrangements at the historic Imambara and instructed authorities to ensure sanitation, lighting, drinking water facilities and smooth movement of devotees.

The Minister interacted with residents, community representatives and Muharram committees, who raised local issues and requirements. He assured them that all genuine concerns would be addressed on priority.

MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq also raised several locality-specific issues and urged expedited completion of pending works.

Sharma said ensuring adequate civic facilities during important religious occasions remains a priority and called for coordinated efforts among departments to complete arrangements within the stipulated timeframe. He said all measures must be taken to ensure smooth observance of Muharram in Srinagar.

Officials accompanying the Minister said all directions issued during the visit would be implemented without delay.
