SRINAGAR: Muzaffarabad’s Qari Khalil-ur-Rehman Qadri who was the most respected religious personality from Kashmir in Saudi Arabia has passed away. He was laid to rest in Jannat-ul-Baqiah Monday morning soon after the Fajar prayers, reports reaching here said.

Qari Khalil migrated to Saudi Arabia on the request of the kingdom’s government in 1963. Born in 1940 in a Pathka village of Muzzafarabad in Pakistan administered Kashmir, Qari Khalil was taught by Sheikh Suleman in Lahore. He was the brother of Muzaffarabad’s first district Qazi, Mufti Mohammad Sulaiman.

After initial teaching assignments in Majid-e-Haram, Qari was given the responsibility of Majid-e-Quba. In his long inning as a teacher of the Quran, Qari Khalil ur Rehman has taught the key Imam’s of the two holy places – Qari Ali bin Jabir of Masjid-e-Haram and Qari Mohammad Ayub of Masjid-e-Nabvi. Some Mualim’s at Masjid-e-Nabvi were also mentored by Qari Khalil. He had the status of ‘teacher of teachers’.

Later, the government extended him the Saudi nationality and bestowed his entire family with the responsibilities of managing and leading some of the key Masjid’s in Madina.

Both his sons Qazi Ahmad Khalil and Qari Mohammad Khalil have led the prayers in the Masjid-e-Nabvi. In 2016, it was Qari Mohammad Khalil who led the Tarawih prayers in Islam’s first mosque.

Qari Khalil’s three sons were permanently posted to lead the prayers at Masjid-e-Quba, Masjid-e-Qiblatien and the Governor House Masjid in the revered Madina city. They would lead the prayers during the Muslim month of fasting if and when their name would emerge during the draw of lots.
