Article 370

As soon as the assembly resumed its business Tuesday morning, National Conference legislators stood up from their seats and raised slogans demanding discussion on Article 35 A. Congress and other independent lawmakers were also on their legs.

Congress legislators, led by G M Saroori, demanded discussion on Article 35 A. MY Tarigami and Hakeem Yaseen demnded discussion on regularization of NYCs, daily wagers.

Leading the opposition, NC’ Ali Muhammad Sagar said the Speaker on the insistence of the PDP was suppressing the voice of the opposition. “We are not here coming with guns and grenades,” Sagar said. “We want to take up peoples issues within the constitution.” He said NC did enough of space to the opposition when it was ruling the state. He said his party was giving more than sufficient time to the Opposition but it is contrary happening right now.

Later the opposition legislators jumped into Well and created huge uproar. While a section of the Treasury benches tried to intervene. Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed personally ensured them not to react.

Law Minister Basharat Bukhari while reacting to the opposition demand said, “Article 35 A is sub-judice; there is a rule that it can’t be discussed now.” “The matter is in Supreme Court,” he said to an applause by PDP-BJP Legislators. He said the opposition is not interested in a discussion. “You are interested in mess,” he said.

As the well was the home to the ruckus, the Speaker permitted the question hour. Interestingly, R&B Minister was interrupted by a few opposition lawmakers while he was responding to the question. It created hilarious scenes as Bukhari had to protect his mike while making his point. Opposition lawmakers  tore scores of papers in the house and threw them up create unprecedented spectacle.
