Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has started work on up gradation infrastructure at Regional Bus Terminal Panthachowk on war-footing in view of the High Court directions for making the terminal fully functional for south bound traffic.

In a statement a spokesperson of the SDA a high team of officers comprising Vice-Chairman SDA, Mohammad Shafi Rather, Transport Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma, Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Mohammad Anees and Managing Director SRTC, J S Tandon visited RBT Panthachowk today to take stock of the existing and upcoming facilities for transporters there.

The team was informed that work for development of SRTC yard is in full swing. Coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 1.03 crores and spread over 20 kanals of land, the yard will have facilities including office block, workshop, marshalling yard and toilet block.

To ease the traffic congestion near Panthachowk, the Vice-Chairman SDA called for having separate entry and exit points for the Bus Terminal. He ordered immediate opening of separate exit for vehicles from the bypass side, which would go a long way in facilitating smooth traffic movement in and out of the bus terminal.

The Vice-Chairman also ordered immediate lifting of garbage from the Bus Terminal and proper landscaping and beautification of the area.

The team was also informed that demarcation of sites at the bus terminal for various segments of transporters including buses, tempo travellers and light vehicles would be done immediately.

Responding to the demands of transporters, the VC SDA said that the issue of drinking water facility would be taken up with the PHE Department.

Speaking on the occasion, Transport Commissioner instructed the concerned authorities to ensure development, face lifting and provision of adequate amenities at the bus terminal for the convenience of the tourists and general public. He exhorted officers to complete the job within the stipulated time so that transporters are intimated about the halting place for buses at specific places at the bus terminal.
