SRINAGAR: The search operation to trace and retrieve the body of a 10-year-old boy who accidentally drowned in the Kishanganga River in the Gurez area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district entered its second day on Wednesday, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Babar Bashir Sheikh, son of a resident of Sheikhpora, Tulail, Gurez.
Officials said the boy accidentally fell into the Kishanganga River near Sheikhpora on Tuesday, triggering a rescue operation.
A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), assisted by local authorities, resumed the search operation on Wednesday after efforts to locate the body on the first day proved unsuccessful.
The operation was continuing when the report was filed, with rescuers combing the river and adjoining areas in an effort to trace the missing boy’s body.
